Arokiaswamy Velumani, born in April 1959, is an Indian entrepreneur best known for founding Thyrocare Technologies Ltd., a network of diagnostic and preventive care laboratories based in Navi Mumbai.
He is a founder of Nueclear Healthcare Limited, a radiology diagnostics company linked with Thyrocare.
Arokiaswamy Velumani is from the village of Appanaickenpatti Pudur, near Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, where he was born into a modest family. His father was a farmer, while his mother helped support the family by selling milk from buffaloes she raised.
While working at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), a nuclear research facility in Mumbai, Arokiaswamy Velumani continued his education. He earned a master's degree in 1985 and later completed a doctorate in Thyroid Biochemistry from the University of Mumbai in 1995.
