Birth & Early Life
- Born on November 12, 1976, in Jaipur, Amit Jain completed his schooling at Saint Xavier’s School, Jaipur. He graduated from IIT Delhi in 1999.
- His mother, Nilma Jain, is a homemaker, and his late father, Mr. Prashant Jain, was an ex-RBI officer and a gemstone businessman. Amit has a younger brother, Anurag Jain, who is the co-founder and COO of CarDekho Group. He is married to Pihu Jain and has twin sons.
- Started as a Software Engineer at Tata Consultancy Services from 1999 to 2000. Worked in various roles at Trilogy for about 6 years and 11 months.
- Co-founded GirnarSoft, an IT firm, with his brother Anurag Jain in 2007, aiming to start a business from their hometown. In 2008, co-founded CarDekho.com, the flagship portal of GirnarSoft, despite facing financial challenges.
- Started with a small garage at home with a team of 20 people, faced bankruptcy in 2009 due to the stock market crash. Despite challenges, launched CarDekho in just two weeks after attending the Auto-Expo in Delhi. CarDekho quickly gained popularity and became India’s number one Autotech portal and Rajasthan’s first unicorn startup.
- Received significant funding from Sequoia Capital in 2013 and achieved unicorn status in 2021 after raising $250 million in Series E funding.
- Acquired Gaddi.com in 2014 and Zigwheels in 2015, further expanding CarDekho's reach. CarDekho played a vital role in lifting the name of GirnarSoft, attracting advertisers and investors.
- Launched a new logo in February 2019, showcasing the app's automated features. Aimed to provide comprehensive data on different cars, offering comparison tools, reviews, and feedback to customers.
